SUMMARY:SESAC Open Session 3 - Lunch Seminar on Local Agency and Regional Development in the Nordics and Earth Observation
DESCRIPTION:Beyond the pixels and the code\, SESAC is about people. Our ‘SESAC Open Sessions’ is a monthly online gathering designed to bridge the gap between satellite-enabled research and societal impact. \nEach 60-minute session features a lightning presentation (15-20 min) from the SESAC team or guest experts\, followed by an open-floor discussion. These webinars are a collaborative space to brainstorm ideas\, discuss new datasets\, and explore how Earth Observation can address the specific challenges faced by your organization or community. Whether you are a researcher\, a policymaker\, a curious student\, your perspective is part of the solution. \nSESAC Open Session 3 – Local Agency and Regional Development in the Nordics and Earth Observation\nWelcome to the third session in the SESAC Open Series\, hosted by the Swedish Competence Centre for Satellite Enabled Social Science Analytics (SESAC). \nSatellite data holds vast\, untapped potential for understanding our world\, but only if we know how to look at it. What happens when we bring together economists\, geographers\, data scientists\, and policymakers? We warmly invite you to the third instalment of the SESAC Open Session series\, where we will cross traditional disciplinary boundaries to explore how Earth Observation (EO) can find entirely new applications in analysing human society and regional development. \nThis exploratory online seminar is designed for students\, researchers\, practitioners\, and anyone curious. Our aim is to bridge and foster a collaborative space to rethink what satellite data can do for regional analysis. \nEvent Program \nThe session will feature three distinct presentations of 10 to 15 minutes each\, leaving the final 15 minutes of the hour dedicated to an open Q&A and group discussion. \n\nLinda Stihl\, Lund University. Linda will discuss her research on local agency and regional development. \nThomas Niedomysl\, Research Director at Nordregio. Thomas will provide an applied policy perspective. Drawing on his extensive work with regional analytics\, he will discuss data needs from a Nordic perspective and how satellite data might provide unique opportunities.\nSebastian Hafner\, Earth Observation Researcher at RISE Research Institutes of Sweden. Sebastian will present Digital Earth Sweden (DES)\, a platform that provides access to analysis-ready Earth observation data and processing tools\, enabling users to build their own workflows and applications on top of it.\n\nHow to Participate? \nWe want this to be an interactive and collaborative environment. Please feel free to bring your lunch and your curiosity. You are highly encouraged to engage by raising questions during the final 15 minutes\, or by sending them to us ahead of time if you prefer. \nA Note on Recording & GDPR: We plan to record the session to share the discussion more widely on our website and YouTube channel. In line with GDPR\, your participation is entirely on your own terms. Before we start recording\, we will explain the process and ask for your verbal confirmation. If you prefer not to be recorded\, you are very welcome to join with your camera off\, use a nickname\, and simply listen in. \nWhen: Friday\, 29th of May\, 12-13 CET. \nWhere: https://teams.microsoft.com/meet/35422821236366?p=a3cVgZO9uQVo6Jua24 \nMeeting-ID: 354 228 212 363 66 \nPassword: 4YD7Fz7x \nYou can find continuous updates on our website at sesac.se/events. Please feel free to share this invitation with your networks if you think this event would interest them. \nWarmly \nSESAC Team
